Everyone wants to be a master photographer. But its not as easy as grabbing a camera and shooting a masterpiece. Theres a lot of work photographers put into taking magnificent photos. Below are a few tips and tricks that can give you a leg up on the other amateurs and have you on your way to taking great photos.

Pay attention to your light. The lighting in a photograph can bring a subject into better focus or change the mood of the picture. Different lighting setups will result in very different photographs. Avoid harsh direct lighting on your subjects face, as this will generally cause them to squint.

In photography, make sure that your main focus is on the quality and not the quantity of the pictures that you take. It is always better for you to get ten great shots than one hundred average shots in a day. Quality is always the better choice.

A good photography tip is to try and be helpful when youre offering criticism. Dont just tell someone that their photograph is nice, or that you like it. Tell them specifically what you like about it, and why you think it makes the photograph strong. The same goes for what you dont like about the photograph.

Experiment a bit with the feature that allows you to adjust levels of whiteness. Light bulbs generally cause a yellow color in photos when you take them indoors. Instead of changing the lighting of a room, adjust the white balance on your camera to get a whole different atmosphere. This should, definitely, give a more professional appearance to your pictures.

The key to taking good photographs is to always remember that lighting is the most important thing. Think about lighting all the time. It does not matter what the source of the lighting is, but it is the elemental part of any photograph. Use the sun, a streetlight, a spotlight or even the computer screen to capture any light and make a great photograph.

When shooting landscapes, remember the rule of thirds which is to keep one-third or two-thirds of the image as the sky or the foreground. This will give the photo more depth and a more dramatic look. This is an easy tip for beginners to follow but will make a huge difference in the appearance of the photos.

Before you take that picture, make sure it will bring out the best in your subject! Get a feel for the backgrounds of all of your shots. Be aware of things close by and in the distance. Also, use that eye of yours to see how color will contrast with the subject of your photo. If the background and subject dont mesh well, you should find another spot!

When you are traveling, look for inspiration about what is interesting to photograph. If youre looking for ideas, a great place to start is by checking out postcards. These photos contain ideas of things people really feel strongly about.

Most often, your subject looks directly into the camera lens. If you want to make your photos a little more interesting, have your subject fix his gaze on an object outside the cameras field of view. You could also have them focus on an item that is within the frame of the picture.

Those are only a few of the tricks out there to help you take amazing photos. But photography isnt something you will learn over night, so remember these tricks and try them out until you get the hang of them. Before you know it, youll be taking professional quality photos!
